A court may order that an imprisoned or detained individual be brought before the court to determine whether the imprisonment or detainment is lawful.  This generally arises in matters of prolonged detention without cause, or in violation of certain laws, injunctions, or binding case law within certain individualized regions throughout the Country.  Depending where the individual is being held, different laws may apply and benefit the individual being held. Should the court decide an imprisonment or detention is unlawful, the court may order the release of the individual.
