Employers have an obligation to verify their employees are authorized to work for them. Compliance can be an extremely complex and tedious endeavor for many employers. Some employers are not familiar with what constitutes valid authorization, whether an individual has obtained such authorization in accordance with laws, whether documents presented are authentic, or other issues that may arise.

If an organization is audited, they generally have three days to comply with a Notice of Inspection (NOI) issued by ICE to turn over required documentation for inspection of hiring practices and compliance.
